Walk around almost any Indian office park at 11 a.m. You’ll find it. A cluster of people by the fire exit, or behind the parking ramp, or right next to the main gate where every visitor walks through the haze. There’s a plastic chair, a tin can full of butts, maybe a “No Smoking” sign two metres away that everyone ignores.

What is a smoking cabin, and how does it work?

A smoking cabin is an enclosed booth or room with its own air-handling system. Smoke is pulled away from the user, passed through filtration, and the cleaned air is recirculated inside the cabin. The smoke stays in the box. The rest of your building stays smoke-free.

The SmokinMe system works in four stages:

1. Capture. Smoke is drawn in at source, close to where people stand, before it spreads through the cabin.
2. Filtration. Air passes through a multi-stage filter that traps particles and absorbs odour.
3. Conditioning. The purified air is conditioned for comfort, which matters in an Indian summer when an enclosed box would otherwise become an oven.
4. Recirculation. Clean air goes back into the cabin, so the unit doesn’t need to be ducted to the outside.

Do smoking cabins need ducting or an exhaust?

SmokinMe cabins don’t. They’re plug-and-play: place the unit, connect power, and it runs. There’s no hole to cut in your façade, no exhaust run across the ceiling, and no negotiation with your building’s HVAC team. For leased offices and older buildings, that alone often decides the project.

Can you install a smoking cabin anywhere?

Not quite, and you should be wary of anyone who says yes without asking questions. Indian law permits designated smoking areas in airports, in hotels with 30 or more rooms, and in restaurants seating 30 or more, and those areas must not sit at the entrance or exit and must carry the prescribed signage. Workplaces and other public places have their own rules. We start every project with a site assessment so the location, ventilation and signage are right before anything is installed.
